California Teacher Calls US Soldiers 'Dumb Sh*ts' in Classroom Rant

Officials from the El Rancho Unified School District issued a statement on Friday saying an investigation was underway into the remarks.

A government teacher and city council member of Pico Rivera is under fire for a classroom rant in which he criticized the intelligence of those who serve in the military.

After his secretly recorded videos of his teacher's derogatory comments about members of the USA military went viral, a Pico Rivera student who hopes to join the Marines is staying out of school over concerns about his own safety. On them, Salcido can be heard saying the only people who would join the military have 0.0 GPAs and, "They're the frickin' lowest of the low". You're freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. "They're the freakin' lowest of our low". They're not academic people.

"We couldn't beat the Vietnamese, they are a bunch of people this big throwing rice at us, and we couldn't beat them".

As he speaks, students can be heard laughing in the background. "I just told him to wake up". "He has a history of being anti-military".

"We want people to be able to enjoy our buildings, and obviously everyone is welcome in the library, so that's the point of what we're trying to do", said Christie Hamm, with Sacramento Public Library. The person taking the video appears to be wearing a Marines sweatshirt.

Salcido says he "credits his students for being a constant reminder that keeping a positive and optimistic disposition is necessary for a productive future". He says he doesn't know how anyone ends up joining the military.

"I was very angry", the student told CBS2 Los Angeles. He said he felt terrorized by his teacher's words.

Snyder said the ruling meant that whether a school district has rules regulating speech could be the key in these cases.

"It was so disrespectful to my dad and my uncles and all veterans and those still in the military", said the student, whose father and uncles fought in in United States wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam.

"My dad - he's a veteran - he went to Afghanistan", he said.

"They're yelling, they're screaming and they want to get everyone out so it's quiet again for everybody", Konnerth said. The parent spoke to the school district about the book, "The Known World" by Edward P. Jones, a Pulitzer Prize victor, saying she found the sexual content inappropriate.

Amid mounting backlash, after the video was posted to Facebook, demands have been made for Salcido to be fired.

Instead of teaching the next generation how to read and write, many taxpayer-funded schools are teaching children how to hate America.

Salcido did not return a request for comment sent to the email address on his biography page, which said that he was graduate of El Rancho High School, where he now teaches, and has served as the city's mayor three times.
