LA Rams Announce Replacements for Offensive Coordinator

Matt LaFleur left to take the Titans' offensive coordinator job, leaving coach and de facto OC Sean McVay in need of some help.

McVay could have blocked LaFleur's move, because in title it is a lateral one, but the Rams have been supportive of LaFleur's career and his desire to move forward, and they considered LaFleur's ability to call plays to be a progression.

The Los Angeles Rams announced Tuesday the promotions of Aaron Kromer to run game coordinator and Shane Waldron to pass game coordinator, replacing offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. "We're grateful for his contribution to the Rams and our NFC West Championship season a year ago". Both will have an increased role in game-planning in 2018. McVay obviously thinks highly of him and sees him as an integral part of the offense. Kromer coached the Rams' vastly improved offensive line last season while Waldron coached up the tight ends.

Speaking of LaFleur, early signs indicated that Los Angeles would be hanging on to their offensive coordinator after Tennessee made a decision to go with Mike Vrabel as their new head coach instead. The Titans previously interviewed him for their vacant head coaching job, which ultimately went to Vrabel. "Dean brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to our staff".

Maximizing Mariota and and a talented Titans roster will be a top priority for LaFleur.

"Matt brings an energy and an offensive diversity to our team", Vrabel said in the statement. Taylor was the Dolphins' quarterbacks coach from 2013-2015.

The Titans finished 23rd in total offense and 19th in scoring offense under Mike Mularkey's often predictable exotic smashmouth offense.

Pees, who has been coaching in some form or another since 1979 and has been in the National Football League since 2004, retired as the Ravens' defensive coordinator earlier this offseason.

The Titans are expected to run more collegiate-spread scheme to maximize Mariota's ability in 2018.

Before becoming a member of the Rams' staff, Kromer spent the prior two seasons with the Buffalo Bills.
