President's Address to the Nation on the eve of Republic Day

Kota, Jan 30 Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today claimed that Rahul Gandhi was the "main" target of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that the BJP tried to show the Congress president as "inferior".

The city observed a two-minute silence on account of Mahatma Gandhi's 70th death anniversary on Tuesday with government officials, private institutions and even motorists paying tribute between 10.58 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Army chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa were also present.

Prayers were led by religious gurus belonging to Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Baha'i, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism.


The President and the Prime Minister also paid their tributes through tweets.

Union Ministers including Arun Jaitley and Mahesh Sharma also took to social media to pay their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat's Porbandar district was assassinated on this day in the year 1948 by Nathuram Godse.

'We bow before all martyrs who sacrificed themselves at the service of our nation. "We will always remember their courage as well as dedication towards the nation", Prime Minister Modi posted.
