New York Mets ink 3B Todd Frazier to 2-year deal

Free agent third baseman and Yankees fan favorite Todd Frazier will be taking his talents, and his thumbs, to Flushing.

Frazier agreed to a two-year, $17 million deal with the Mets on Monday night, according to multiple reports.

Frazier hit.213 with a.772 OPS between Chicago and NY last season while cutting his strikeout rate as K's rose across the league.

The deal for Frazier comes just one week prior to the start of spring training in what has been a very slow free market all winter.

The Mets' infield seems set with Frazier at 3rd base, 22 year-old phenom Amed Rosario at shortstop, Asdrubal Cabrera at 2nd base, and 14-year veteran Adrian Gonzalez at 1st base.

Selected by Cincinnati with the 34th-overall pick in the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft, Todd Frazier played the first five seasons of his major league career with the Reds before being traded to the White Sox in December 2015.

The 31-year-old Frazier will provide power to the Mets lineup, having averaged nearly 33 home runs a year since 2014-Frazier's first year as an All-Star.

The fact hitters cleared the fences at a historic rate in 2017 somewhat devalues the power Frazier provides. Chris Carter led the National League in home runs (41) in 2016 and was out of a job last season by mid-July. Frazier's pact is pending a physical.
