County, state and nation experiencing severe flu season

Often people do have the flu, but their bodies handle it so well that the symptoms seem like something mild.

In Atlanta, there were 15,000 hospitalizations due to the flu virus which means nearly 2 times more than in the past years' flu outbreaks, according to the local CDC office. The highest single-week total in the 2016-2017 flu season was 571.

Frequent handwashing, staying away from sick people and disinfecting surfaces may be your best defense in avoiding the flu. The Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (JAGES) project is one of the largest cohort studies of social determinants of health among Japanese adults aged ≥65 years. Flu activity continues to increase across the US, resulting in crowded hospitals and spot shortages of antiviral medications and rapid influenza tests.

Influenza-like illness continues to increase in DE, and across the nation.

The main reason to get a flu shot is to help reduce transmission of the disease to those who are most vulnerable, according to various outlets. Additionally, the number of flu-related hospitalizations nationwide is the highest in a decade.

But the flu, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 37 children and 85 adults in the USA, can cause potentially fatal complications, for adults of any age.

Mary Bassett said at a press conference Tuesday, "The flu is prevalent in every single state of the continental USA".

The KDHE monitors flu season from September 1 through May 31. One of the death has been identified - an 8-year-old girl from Queens died Monday after she was brought to the hospital with flu symptoms.

Tragic boy, nine-year-old Coby Simons, is believed to have become the youngest to die from the latest terrifying outbreak.

"I think all flu progress pretty quickly but this one has a very rapid onset so you can go to work feeling fine but by the end of the day or at lunch time you think you've been struck by a train".

The flu remained widespread in 48 states, including Iowa and Nebraska.

Some schools are shutting down for days at a time to stop the spread.

The flu can be battled quite easily with some bed rest and medicine, but those who are over the age of 65, pregnant, or have chronic health problems may want to check in with their doctors, as they may need a different type of treatment such as antiviral medication. These are the results of the first comprehensive overview of seasonal influenza vaccine coverage in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) between 2008/09 and 2014/15, conducted by the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). These include drinking enough fluids, eating healthy food, being physically active, managing stress, and getting enough sleep.
