Florida Interstate Reopens 6 Hours After Mayhem

I-95 Northbound from Lantana Rd.to 6th Avenue is closed for the rest of the day due to the incident. The southbound lanes reopened just before 12 p.m., and the northbound lanes reopened just after 4:15 p.m.

Northbound Interstate 95 in south Palm Beach County was closed for six hours after the shooting.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the suspect shot the woman in a suburban shopping center parking lot Wednesday morning and pulled her inside his Nissan Rogue.

The couple, officials said, initially walked into the My Neighborhood Grocery store. Bradshaw said authorities don't know if the suspect and the victim had a relationship.

Video from a television news helicopter showed several wrecked cars and debris scattered across highway lanes.

Three drivers were injured in the accidents.

Marilyn Selva said he grandson and his girlfriend usually visited and threatened her when she was alone.

Bradshaw said deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived to find Selva in his wrecked SUV and ordered him out of the auto.

Bradshaw said the FHP trooper attempted to use his Taser gun on the suspect, but that didn't work.

Bradshaw said the second deputy was eventually forced to open fire on the suspect, killing him.

A Florida Highway Patrol officer and a Palm Beach County deputy tracked down the Nissan and approached the driver.

Police later determined the suspect shot and murdered the woman.

Bradshaw said it was later learned the suspect was wanted for a non-fatal shooting Tuesday in West Palm Beach. "We are handling the crime scene", he said. Southbound lanes were also closed between Lantana Road and Hypoluxo Road, but they reopened shortly after noon. Those lanes have since reopened.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting, while deputies are investigating the Lake Worth shooting and the crashes on I-95.
