Eagles QB Coach John DeFilippo Reportedly Will Be Hired as Vikings OC

Shurmur left the Vikings when he was hired as head coach of the New York Giants. Is there a chance that the Vikings may want to stretch that continuity even further and make a deal to get Foles to Minneapolis to work with his former QB coach?

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles took some time to share his thoughts on the man that helped mold him at the end of the 2017 regular season.

DeFilippo was the Eagles' quarterbacks coach for the past two seasons after serving as Cleveland's offensive coordinator in 2015.

The 2017 Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have already lost a key member of their coaching staff. In turn, Minnesota didn't waste any time in securing its new offensive coordinator.

In his time with the Eagles, DeFilippo oversaw the early development of quarterback Carson Wentz, who was in the discussion for the NFL MVP this past year before a torn ACL ended his year prematurely.

" Flip's situation was that he handled red zone ... so when different coaches give their presentations, you remember his being a little more energetic", Murray said per a team release. (He) barely sleeps... (He's giving us) fundamentals, giving us the game plan, giving us all our checks, extremely detailed. He was passionate. I knew Derek (Carr) liked him, that's for sure. He's done an wonderful job this year.

"We are very excited to add John to our staff, " Zimmer said in a statement.

DeFilippo was one of a few candidates for Minnesota's opening with playcalling experience.

The 39-year-old, who becomes an National Football League offensive coordinator for the second time in his career, will succeed Shurmur as the Vikings' offense enters a pivotal offseason.

For anybody wondering why DeFilippo would leave the Eagles for the Vikings right after winning the Super Bowl, the difference in their offensive coordinator jobs is that Doug Pederson calls the plays and oversees the offense in Philadelphia, whereas Mike Zimmer will give him the figurative keys to the vehicle. It will be interesting to see (a) who the Vikings' quarterback will be in 2018, and (B) what DeFilippo can do with them.

The loss of either would have an impact, but with head coach Doug Pederson and Wentz, the offense will likely be fine.

On Friday, DeFilippo talked about why the Vikings job stood above the rest, admitting that the opportunity to call plays played a role. "He'll be heavily involved in that".

Here's a quote from Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.
