Former Manchester United midfielder Liam Miller dies aged 36

Since his passing, a host of tributes have been paid to the Cork man.

President Higgins passed on his condolences to Miller's family and friends. "Rest In Peace", former United midfielder David Beckham posted on Instagram.

Wilmington, who Miller played for in 2016, were the last of 12 clubs that the Cork-born midfielder represented during a 16-year career that took him around the world.

"So sad. Devastating news". Thanks for the memories Miller, an absolute gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Dozens of Miller's former teammates have also paid tribute.

He won 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland between 2004 and 2009.

"RIP Liam Miller. Was lucky enough to room with Liam on a few global trips. top player and a great person. Thoughts and prayers with his loved ones".

Ex-international teammate Kevin Kilbane said, "Sad hearing the very bad news Liam has passed away, taken far too soon by a terrible disease".


"Manchester United is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of our former midfielder Liam Miller", United said in a tweet.

Leeds said everyone at the club was "deeply saddened", adding: "Our thoughts are with his family and friends".

The popular Irishman started his career at Celtic in 2000 before moving to Manchester United four years later.

He was a member of the side which claimed the 2004 Scottish Premiership, while also scoring for the side in the Uefa Champions League.

While he made just 22 appearances for United, he went on to enjoy successful spells in England with Leeds and Sunderland.

Football Federation Australia confirmed a moment's silence will be held before the match between Sydney FC and Melbourne City, one of three A-League teams Miller played for in a three-year spell in Australia.

Stiliyan Petrov, who played with Miller at Celtic, said he was "deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and old team-mate Liam Miller". "Our thoughts go out to Liam's family and friends at this time".
