Sunjuwan Army camp attack: Second terrorist gunned down

Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir - At least one soldier has been killed and several people have been wounded in a fierce gun battle as fighters stormed an army base in Jammu city of Indian-administered Kashmir, according to local officials.

The militants entered the army officer's family quarters and an operation is underway, the reports said, adding that soldiers including an officer had been killed.

Harsh said that Central Government must exert diplomatic pressure on global forum to isolate the rogue nation and declare it a Terrorist State.

Later, in the evening she visited Army Hospital, Satwari and enquired about the condition of those injured in the attack.

Para commandos were airlifted from the army's Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur town to flush out the holed-up terrorists, whose exact number is still not known. The personnel have been identified as JCO M Ahsraf Mir and Madan Lal.

Accusing Pakistan over the Army camp attack, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah said, "No day passes by without such incidents and terrorists are all coming from Pakistan".


Jammu and Kashmir had been on high alert for potential trouble given that February 9 was the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru while February 11 is the death anniversary of JKLF founder Maqbool Butt. "We have ordered closure of schools in Sunjwan area as a precautionary measure in the wake of the attack", a spokesman of the Jammu divisional commissioner's office said.

Jammu IGP SD Singh Jamwal said that around 4:55 am suspicious movement was noticed by the santri; santri bunker was sacked upon & they retaliated. Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also been briefed by the State DGP S P Vaid.

Saini also refuted allegations that the attack was due to failure on the part of the army.

Unconfirmed reports said one person has died in the gunfight. "The fire was retaliated to".

The national highway, which was closed in view of terror attack, was thrown open for the traffic in the afternoon later while the security forces cordoned the area of terror site. "Deeply disturbed by the terrorist attack in Sunjwan today. My heart goes out to the injured & their families".
