Freezing rain warning in effect for Waterloo Region, snow event in Cambridge

The rain will switch back to snow in the afternoon and should end sometime Sunday evening.

A short period of snowfall could precede the freezing rain, but that too is expected to be minimal.

Roughly 2-5 centimeters (0.8-2.0 inches) accumulation is expected before the weather switches over to freezing rain in the afternoon.

The freezing rain will change to flurries early this afternoon over Southwestern Ontario to Golden Horseshoe later this afternoon or early evening.

Environment Canada is warning people that the freezing rain could lead to slippery roads and walkways. "Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions". "Watch for tail lights ahead and maintain a safe following distance".

The weather agency says travel conditions may be hazardous.

A freezing rain warning remains in effect for areas around the region including Guelph, Erin, Southern Wellington County, Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo.
