Markelle Fultz's status for the season uncertain

Markelle Fultz's status for the season uncertain

But the elephant in the room for the 76ers this season has been the health of 2017 No.1 pick Markelle Fultz.

Playing just four games due to a shoulder issue, Fultz has averaged 6.0 points on 33.3 percent shooting and has added 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19.0 minutes per contest. When pressed on what the range now is, Colangelo offered a revealing answer: "It's within the paint basically".

In a discussion with reporters today, Colangelo said there is now no timeline for Fultz's return and added the guard could be back in days or could miss the rest of the season. Paint shots, perimeter shots are kind of where you draw a line. He last played on October 23 and averaged 6.0 points, 1.8 assists and 2.3 rebounds in the Sixers' first four games.

When asked about when Fultz may return, Colangelo said it could either be soon, or not at all.

"I think he's got to feel right, and we've got to feel right ..."

"He's doing some things on the basketball court, in the limited basketball activity that he's taking place in, that he's participating in, and he's dazzling in many ways".

So the 76ers are no stranger to not getting any, or in Fultz's case very little, immediate production from a high draft pick.

Markelle tried to play through the injury, and it showed in his shooting percentages, as Fultz only managed to shoot 33% from the field while taking nearly seven shots a game, and this was after shooting 41% from deep his lone year at Washington.

"We hope to see [Fultz] this year. That's going to be a determination that's made at some point in the future", Colangelo said.
