India dominate to clinch series

India had entered the six-match series in second position on 119 points, two points behind leaders South Africa.

Failing to maintain its triumphant run after a defeat in the fourth ODI, India will aim to clinch its maiden bilateral 50-over series against the Proteas on South African soil in the fifth encounter here on Tuesday.

Once again, South Africa struggled to get through India's top order after getting an early wicket.

Shreyas Iyer joined Sharma who, after he was dropped on the boundary by Tabraiz Shamsi on 96, went to his 17th ODI century off 107 balls.

Aiden Markram went for a run-a-ball 32 as he combined for 52 opening runs with Amla, who found little in the way of support as Duminy (1) and AB de Villiers (6) both failed. But above all, wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav once again tipped the game in India's favour with six wickets between them.

The team under Kohli achieved which neither among Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid or Mahendra Singh Dhioni could ever accomplish - win a full fledged series in the Rainbow Nation.

Indian captain and batting kingpin, Virat Kohli strode to the wicket with his side on 47/1 in the 8th over. "I didn't feel I had to change a lot and I knew that the runs would come", he said after being named man of the match. For India, Rohit Sharma scored a magnificent 115 in the form of returning to form. "It's a must-win game for them, we have the lead and the advantage so we would like to put some decent runs on the board for them to chase down".

South Africa stayed alive in the one-day global series against India with an enthralling five-wicket win in the fourth game on Saturday.

One can't ignore Hardik Pandya's contribution as his all-round skill sets came into good effect. Rohit has the worst average by an Indian cricketer in South Africa at the moment.

On the tour so far, Rohit had tallied 118 runs in eight innings across two Tests and four ODIs.On Tuesday, he nearly doubled that at St. George's Park.

"Two guys got run out before me so there was nothing to celebrate about".

India ended on 274/7, a few shy of where they perhaps thought they would end up, largely thanks to Ngidi's heroics. Mithali Raj's women army also lost the last ODI, and it gave Dane van Niekerk's women the momentum entering the five-match T20I series, starting Tuesday February 13. You can also catch the live coverage on Sony Ten 3 in Hindi commentary. The match is scheduled to begin at 04.30 pm (IST), 11:00 am (GMT) and 01:00 pm Local Time onwards.
