KZN ANC: Zuma will continue to contribute to ANC's progress

"We therefore welcome the decision announced by the National Executive Committee of the governing party, the ANC, to recall Zuma as a deployee of the ANC in his capacity as President" it added.

The National Assembly is to elect a president following the resignation of former president Jacob Zuma late on Wednesday.

The EFF members walked out saying they would not participate in the election of a president by a Parliament that did not carry ou t its constitutionally mandated responsibility to discipline an errant president.

ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule - a known Zuma ally - told a media briefing at the party's headquarters‚ Chief Albert Luthuli House‚ that the decision was taken after exhaustive, 13-hour discussions on Monday through the night and into the early hours of this morning.

The leadership of the ANC is having a taste of its own medicine because it defended President Jacob Zuma through thick and thin.

Also expected to be addressed during the meeting is a motion of no confidence‚ which the Economic Freedom Fighters had meant to lodge against Zuma. The 5th parliament is guilty the same way as Zuma is guilty. The court comes again [and] says in the impeachment case, "you failed in your duties to develop the rules that will hold Zuma accountable". So we should just go back and get a fresh mandate. Otherwise we can't be cleaned by ourselves.

Zuma was in elected 2009 as the third president of South Africa. It was scheduled for 11:00 to give Zuma a chance to deliver his expected resignation address, which should have happened at 10:00.
