White House Media Driver Detained After Bringing Gun to Work

White House Media Driver Detained After Bringing Gun to Work

According to CNN, a contracted driver who was supposed to transport reporters to Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago compound on Monday has been briefly detained after security officials discovered a firearm on him.

"All Secret Service security measures worked", the agency said.

A White House staffer drove the van and picked up reporters because the driver was still being questioned by Secret Service agents and was not allowed on resort grounds. As is often the case, the White House procures local drivers for certain vehicles in the President's motorcade, while other cars - including Trump's - are driven by Secret Service or military personnel.

"At no time was any Secret Service protectee in danger or impacted", the Secret Service said in a statement.

"The incident was investigated by the Secret Service and our partners at the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) and resolved", the agency stated.

The incident occurred off club grounds in a parking lot across the street and roughly an hour before press vans joined up with presidential motorcade, which later headed to the Trump's nearby private golf course.

According to a pool report, the "d$3 river said he forgot to leave the firearm inside his personal vehicle before entering van". The Secret Service removed all drivers afterward.

The unidentified individual was barred from entering the property, with a White House staffer driving the press pool van throughout the day.

Monday's was Trump's first public appearance since Friday, when he met with first responders and injured victims of the high school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Apparently, they're not as good at it as hired help, as one of the vans was later involved in a minor crash.
