Davis was considered "armed and unsafe", according to the city of Mount Pleasant's Twitter account.

Michigan State Police said two people have been killed, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Campus police spoke with Davis on Thursday night, Klaus told reporters during a news conference. "We have not had any of our police assets lay eyes on him. If you see something suspicious, call 911", the university added. The two killed are not CMU students or staff, officials said.

The gunman remained at large Friday afternoon.

Police called this a domestic shooting and stressed the campus was safe as they continued to search for their suspect.

"Officers will be going building to building", the university's update said.

"I was just kind of scared for all the people I know that live over where it happened, I wanted to make sure they were safe", he said.

"There has been a report of shots fired at Campbell Hall on campus. Number one priority right now is safety", said Sherry Knight, associate vice-president of the university's communications.

At O'Kelly's Sports Bar and Grille near CMU, a longtime popular gathering spot for CMU students, staff were keeping the back door locked but letting customers in as they arrived. He is considered armed & unsafe.

According to campus and local police, Davis fled north and is believed to still be in the city. "Call 911", they tweeted. Police are now in the process of evacuating campus buildings.

Friday was a light day on campus with the start of spring break. Students at the university have been advised to shelter in place, and classes have been canceled. Parents picking up their students are asked to report to the Comfort Inn, 2424 Mission St., in Mt.
