Jordan Murphy, a longtime friend of Davis Sr., and said the two worked together as Illinois Army National Guard recruiters after being deployed together as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Davis graduated from Plainfield Central High School in 2016 after attending Plainfield South High School for three years, according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez. "That's traumatic", Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said at a news conference on Friday afternoon, hours after the shooting.

Larry Klaus earlier identified the suspect as James Eric Davis Jr.

James Davis Sr. was a part-time police officer in Bellwood.

"Fortunately I was able to get him inside safely", she said from behind her front door while cradling her son in her arms. Whatever situation went down between them, it has to be more than him being a bad person because, as a family, they loved each other.

Hours later, officers spotted Davis a dorm hallway with his suitcases, Yeagley said.

A 19-year-old Central Michigan University student officials accused of fatally shooting his mother and father on campus was taken into custody just after midnight Saturday after a almost day-long manhunt.

Friday was a light day on campus with the start of spring break.

Following the shooting, police released a photo of Davis Jr. and urged the public to call 911 if they saw him but also warned that he shouldn't be confronted.

A police department had contact with the suspect Thursday night, and at some point in the night, he was taken to a hospital, university police said. The school says police are searching for a 19-year-old suspect who's considered armed and risky.

CMU officials confirmed Friday night that the the two people killed in a campus dorm were Davis Jr.'s parents, James Davis Sr. and his wife Diva, of Bellwood, Illinois.

"Here's where we're at, in regards to apprehension", Klaus told reporters.

The parents were reportedly picking up their son from college for spring break when the shooting happened inside a residence hall on campus.

Police called this a domestic shooting and stressed the campus was safe as they continued to search for their suspect. They say Davis was seen on train tracks shortly after midnight.

A daylong manhunt in MI for a college student who allegedly shot his parents dead Friday morning after they arrived on campus to pick him up for Spring Break has stretched into the evening hours.

Currently, more than 100 law enforcement officers from across MI are searching for Davis Jr., who was last seen leaving a residence hall on campus.

Campbell Hall is understood to be a mixed-sex dormitory on the West Campus.

The school posted an alert Friday morning on social media about shots being fired at Campbell Hall.
