'The Bachelor' Crossed a Line with Becca and Arie's Break-Up

'The Bachelor' Crossed a Line with Becca and Arie's Break-Up

The Bachelor After the Final Rose airs on ABC Tuesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. ET.

Former Bachelors and Bachelorettes were united in their anger that this break-up had been filmed. Maybe. Longtime Bachelor observer Claire Fallon rightly pointed out that whatever one might have reasonably expected in signing up for The Bachelor, Monday night's debacle fell pretty well outside it. In fact, Luyendyk called himself "a monster" ahead of the finale. But it's also faced criticism for its masterful manipulation of a woman's pain.

ABC had said the finale would "rock " "Bachelor Nation" to its core", and they were right.

Well, the strategy worked: The finale ratings spiked over the show's shriveled season average, drawing an audience of 7.8 million viewers and a 2.2 among 18-to-49 year-olds, the demographic advertisers seek. And many thought the finale took things way too far.

During the breakup scene, Luyendyk awkwardly stuck around despite repeated pleas from Kufrin for the bachelor to leave her alone and walk out the door. And I know-you always said, "Guard your heart".

Arie and Becca don't sail off into the sunset together? Becca, already proving to be a good sport, even hopped on Bradley the horse in her sparkly gold gown with a rather high slit up the side.

Harrison added that he's not disappointed in Luyendyk for changing his mind, "But I was very sad and disappointed for the situation".

Turns out, Arie decided he made the wrong decision weeks after proposing to Becca.

The entire break-up was caught on camera as a blindsided Kufrin, 29, remained graceful and level-headed as Luyendyk broke it off after admitting he still wasn't over Burnham. "But why must you make the soon-to-be-broken-hearted vocalize just how in love they are full well knowing just how much those very words are going to slap them in the face".

To make matters even more awkward for Bekah (and everyone who else saw this photo and experienced second-hand embarrassment for this thirst trap), he followed that up with another message the next day after Bekah didn't respond.

Becca wasn't given any privacy or respect during the highly emotional moment. Arie tells her something is holding him back and he can't go through with his. "Leave", "leave" the viewers kept tweeting while you hung around with the cameras watching Becca break down. But he only went outside and when Becca cried in the bathroom, he went back to try again to talk to her. "And I think you sense that", he explained to Becca. "What are you still doing here?"

And Arie's pressure to get her to feel better does not come off as sweet, romantic, or respectable. That alternate version of this episode would have been plenty of exploitation porn for The Bachelor. When it finishes playing, Becca says, "brutal".

Becca will come face-to-face with Arie for the first time on the After the Final Rose special tonight!
