Accused Oscar thief has rap sheet from Portland

This Sunday, March 4, 2018, still image from AP video appears to show the man who authorities say stole Frances McDormand's best actress Oscar walking out of the official Academy Awards after-party in Los Angeles.

Bryant was also captured on video leaving the ball while brandishing the award to photographers, one of whom confronted him after not recognising him as a victor. After winning best actress for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, her empowering acceptance speech had women on their feet applauding her demand for an "inclusion rider" in all contracts.

The photographer notified security, who apprehended Bryant.

Apparently McDormand was seen crying at the Governors Awards Ball after-party she gave up looking for her statue and left with her husband Joel Coen.

The statuette has since been returned to the best actress victor.

"There's a difference between holding an Oscar and what he's charged with", Bryant's lawyer Daniel Brookman told reporters.

Terry Bryant, 47, was arrested on suspicion of felony grand theft, said Officer Rosario Herrera, a police spokeswoman. Bryant, a Los Angeles resident, also streamed a video of himself holding and kissing the Oscar statue on Facebook, claiming that it was his. "They celebrated the reunion with a double cheeseburger from In and Out", McDormand's representative, Simon Halls, said in a statement, referring to the California fast-food chain. Jail records show that he is still being held on $20,000 bail.

The criminal complaint filed against Bryant lists both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and McDormand as victims of the theft.

"My team got this tonight", Bryant says in the video, which is still available on Facebook thanks to the merciful internet gods.

Kotagal said they have been discussing the concept in recent months with stars and talent agencies but did not know how McDormand had come to know of the concept.

Ms Levy added: "I think we are living in an unusual time in America".
