Airport Chaos: Technical issues causing major delays at Sydney Airport

A security incident is causing significant delays at Brisbane Airport's worldwide terminal.

Their longest delay was two hours, and delays are now running from between 30 to 90 minutes.

"Please contact your airline for flight status".

Photos posted to social media show thousands of people stuck in standstill queues.

Virgin Australia was working to minimise disruptions but says there will be "some impact" to flights throughout Friday as a result of the earlier issue.

Qantas' domestic Terminal 3 was not affected.

It also added that it was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, while advising passengers and visitors to avoid T1 and T2 until further notice.

Passengers are seen waiting in line due to hardware and technical issues at the Domestic Airport in Sydney, March 9, 2018.

The issue prevented passengers from being processed for about two hours, but Sydney Airport said it had resumed screening just after 7.30am.

Meanwhile in Brisbane a passenger set off a security screen at the global terminal, causing a backlog of commuters.

She said Australian Federal Police officers were investigating the matter, but an AFP spokesman said the agency was not involved.

At around 7:45AM Sydney Airport Tweeted that it was once again processing passengers in the affected terminals.
