N. Carolina advances to ACC title game

The governors of North Carolina and Virginia appear to be enjoying their teams reaching Saturday night's ACC tournament title game. Johnson is averaging 13.2 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds per game.

Carolina bounced back from the semifinal loss to Duke in 2017 to win the national championship.

Theo Pinson made two free throws with 3.2 seconds left to seal it, and the Tar Heels snapped a six-game losing streak in the ACC Tournament to their most heated Tobacco Road rivals. "Unfortunately, we did have some turnovers so it looked a little panicky, but I think having those guys and having their experience is why we were able to win tonight". The Blue Devils and Tar Heels are scheduled to tip off at the Barclay's Center at 9pm ET tonight, or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the other ACC semifinal between Clemson and Virginia. "Everybody likes talent, and I do, too", Williams said. But Allen's forced three-point attempt never found iron - say what you will about Allen, but he too forced the action and you had to respect that he has spent four years pulling triggers in a rain of boos. It's a big-time game.

Note: You can also watch the game on your computer via ESPN.com, or on your phone, tablet or streaming device via the WatchESPN app.

"My teammates are going to be ready". Get the Heels behind the 8-ball early, and the game could play out like the January game in JPJ.

Still, as Williams could tell you, having full-grown players doesn't guarantee they'll always play reliably.

Both teams are on a roll. With four freshmen starters, the Blue Devils might have the most talented team in the country. Carolina is 8-2 over its last 10 contests. Meanwhile, Duke destroyed any hope Notre Dame had of winning this year's tournament with an 18-point blowout on Thursday.

Even if they don't beat Virginia Saturday, the Tar Heels possess 11 victories over teams in the top 50 of the RPI, including two each over Duke and Syracuse.

The 2018 ACC Tournament semifinals are set and it's going to be a good one. Entering this season, Bagley was expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft and that will likely come true if he goes pro after the season. They also won the battle of tempo in that one, as they controlled the pace and limited the Heels to just 59 offensive possessions, which was by far their lowest of the season. "We've been very unselfish".

The year before it was the Tar Heels who took home the ACC crown.

"They're great defensively, and we've just got to make sure we limit our mistakes" said UNC guard Joel Berry. What's more, the Tar Heels would have amassed an incredible seven wins over teams projected to be seeded fifth or better in the NCAA tournament.

North Carolina played a day before Duke because of missing out on a double-bye.

The second-seeded Blue Devils are allowing only 58.0 points over the last seven games since a switch to primarily zone defense. Compare that to North Carolina's 24 assists on its 28 made field goals and just 13 turnovers, and the difference in the two sides' ball movement proved to be the deciding factor in the game. Bagley is averaging 20.7 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks/steals in his 33 minutes a night. Bagley was a unanimous first-team All-ACC and ACC All-Freshman selection.
