Neymar wants return to Barcelona rather than controversial switch to Real Madrid

In the same week that PSG crashed out of the UEFA Champions League, and only seven months after he joined the club for a world record 222million euros ($264 million), Neymar´s future has grown uncertain.

Neymar's Brazilian team-mate Marquinhos has spoken out to advise his fellow Brazil worldwide that he should stick with Paris Saint-Germain's "project", despite the Parisians disappointing showing in the Champions League against defending champions Real Madrid.

Neymar was said to have left the Catalan giants to PSG in order to step out of the shadow cast by Lionel Messi.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Neymar is planning a 2019 return to his former club while some people close to the club view it as an alibi before making a move to rivals Real Madrid.

Many concerns were raised over the summer when Barcelona was forced into a record-breaking transfer deal once the release clause of their Brazilian forward was met. Neymar departing for Paris Saint-Germain was seen as a great loss for Barcelona.

But Valverde rejected speculation Neymar could make a sensational return to Barcelona after a single season with PSG.

He now believes the Ligue 1 is inferior to La Liga.

"It is a fantasy and we are not going to speak about rumours when we know it would not end here".

Today though there are further column inches generated, in the media, inferring that Neymar, having left Barcelona last summer, has his eyes on a return.

'€400m for Neymar? When Madrid bought me for €72m, it seemed insane, ' said the Real Madrid manager.

Real Madrid have been the club most persistently linked with a move for Neymar, with Zinedine Zidane talking up the striker just this week.

"I don't know where that has come from", Valverde told reporters on Friday.

Neymar is now recovering from an operation on his foot in Brazil after suffering a broken metatarsal last month.
