No. 25 Rhode Island rallies vs. Saint Joseph's in A10 semis

North Carolina Central University will head to Dayton for a play-in game with Texas Southern, the victor will take on the west's top-seed, Xavier.

URI's Fatts Russell went to the free throw line and made one of two shots to cut the Rams deficit to two, 32-30, with 2:10 left to play.

Shavar Newkirk had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the fourth-seeded Hawks (16-16), who drubbed Rhode Island 78-48 last week.

"Obviously, it was a pretty exciting semifinal Saturday", URI coach Dan Hurley said.

Andre Berry had 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Rams, while Jeff Dowtin added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Saint Joseph's piled up 47 points by halftime (the most in the opening 20 minutes against the Rams this season) to lead by seven, and still nursed a 70-65 lead on Nick Robinson's layup with 8:43 left. The Rams are making their 10th tournament appearance and are in the field for back-to-back seasons for only the second time.

New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry says that he is confident that superstar big man Anthony Davis will play on Sunday against the Utah Jazz, according to the team.

Who We Like: Davidson's motion offense is rolling right now and the Wildcats' 2-3 zone gave the Rams' fits earlier this season.

Top-seeded Rhode Island (25-7), though, will be in the bracket despite coming up short in its try for a second conference tourney title in a row. That's just silly, that a guy would take away a kid's chance to fire up a half-court shot.

The Davidson Wildcats will take on the Rhode Island Rams in the A-10 Tournament Final on Sunday, start time at 12:00 PM ET, at Capital One Arena, Washington DC. They're poised to contend in the Atlantic 10 again next season.

"But what we talked about is what it felt like on Sunday previous year (in the title game), you know, landing (at the airport in Rhode Island) and having hundreds of fans". The game was within reach by halftime as Saint Joseph's was ahead by 7 points, 47-40.
