From limbo to lethal: UNC's Kenny Williams makes most of NCAA minutes

From limbo to lethal: UNC's Kenny Williams makes most of NCAA minutes

In the school's very first NCAA Tournament appearance, Lipscomb hung around with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, but eventually fell 84-66 to the reigning NCAA champions. They led 33-31 with fewer than 4 minutes left in the first half before North Carolina went on a 12-1 run to lead 43-34 by the break. The Bisons played tough defense and were frustrating UNC at times in the game.

Prediction: Texas A&M got off to a red-hot start this season, but like a number of teams this year, fell apart a bit as the year wore on.

The entire first half surge by Lipscomb was fueled by Kenny Cooper and Eli Pepper.

Marberry carried the Bisons early in the second half, working Maye on the block for a pair of layups and drawing two fouls.

The Tar Heels came out hot in the half, extending their lead to 18 at 69-51 at the 10:42 mark after a Joel Berry layup.

Berry reached a big milestone as he surpassed Michael Jordan on UNC's all-time career scoring list with a grand total of 1,792 points. UNC wasn't expecting it and before they knew it, the Bison were ahead 21-15.

Roy Williams has been a walking paragon for coaching in the amateur ranks.

Williams led the Tar Heels with 18 points on the game including going 4-of-5 from the three-point line. Pinson dropped 15 points for the game, hauled in 10 rebounds and dished seven assists. That includes senior guard Cameron Johnson (12.7 points), who averaged 14.4 points in the five games before scoring four Saturday.

It's the senior's last NCAA Tournament and he is making the most of it already.

The Tar Heels just proved to be bigger, faster and more athletic once it got deeper into the game.

"For no reason, we're going down and shooting the first shot we can get whether it feels like lead or shoot the sucker is the way we played there, so hopefully the anger will stay through the half and we'll play better in the second half, too".

UNC-Chapel Hill Police say the break-in happened March 9, the night of North Carolina's ACC semifinal win against Duke. This was his first real taste of NCAA Tournament action. That's a pretty impressive stat as Williams has had his teams ready to play in the opening round over the years.

While the Tar Heels (26-10) won their opening game in defense of the national championship they won previous year, Lipscomb (23-10) is left to cherish memories of their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies beat No. 10 seed Providence in the game before UNC-Lipscomb. The Maroon & White topped the Dean Smith-coached Tar Heels in the second round at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas, behind a 23-point effort by David Britton and Rynn Wright's double-double performance. Offensively, Texas A&M has been led by Tyler Davis (14.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.3 apg), DJ Hogg (11.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.6 apg), and Robert Williams (10.3 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 2.6 bpg).
