1 person dead in shooting at Southern California mall, authorities say

Thousand Oaks police said Sunday that Parisa Siddiqi was the woman shot and killed Saturday by 33-year-old Kevin Crane while she was working at the Paper Source store Saturday afternoon.

The divorced couple have children, who were found safe, Buschow said, adding that an attempted murder-suicide is suspectged.

The sheriff's office patrol station in Thousand Oaks tweeted they had responded to the shooting. He is being treated at a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.


Jeffrey Simpson was inside a department store at a Southern California mall when it suddenly went into lockdown.

"I went to Nordstrom to get trousers, and the next thing I know, the doors are being sealed, " Simpson said. While he and his mother were " a little shaken", he said employees were helpful in keeping people inside the mall calm. Shoppers had been locked down at The Oaks mall in the city of Thousand Oaks, about 64km west of Los Angeles.

Shoppers were ordered to evacuate and move to a safety zone across the street as armed police entered the mall to assess the situation.

A message left for the Ventura County sheriff's department wasn't immediately returned.
