Former LSU RB Jeremy Hill to sign with New England Patriots

Former LSU RB Jeremy Hill to sign with New England Patriots

Formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, Burkhead signed with the team during last year's free agency period and posted over 500 yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns.

Both had visited with the Patriots on Friday.

Clayborn is coming off a season in which he set the Falcons' single-game sack record when he recorded six against the Cowboys in a game in November. New England has also said goodbye to free agents Nate Solder, Malcolm Butler, Danny Amendola and Johnson Bademosi.

Last year, PFF graded Clayborn as the 19th best edge rusher (85.5). He played 526 defensive snaps.

It wouldn't be free agency without the New England Patriots making value moves after the big splash free agents have found their landing spots. Trey Flowers, who led the team in 2017 with 6.5 sacks, is the its top player at defensive end and he returns in 2018, the final year of his contract.

The Patriots finally addressed an issue that plagued them all of last season. The Clayborn signing, in particular, proves veteran players are willing to join the organization on lesser deals.

The Patriots also have second-year player Deatrich Wise Jr.at the position, and he showed promise after joining the team as a 2017 fourth-round pick out of Arkansas, playing in every game and totaling five sacks. So, the Patriots know what they're getting out of Clayborn from a character standpoint.

Hill adds to a backfield that lost Lewis to the Tennessee Titans. But with the Bengals drafting Jeremy Mixon previous year, Hill's carries dropped significantly.

Tobin, 27, has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks. Hill, 25, rushed for 2,873 yards and 29 touchdowns in four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. But he has never been the same since fumbling late in the 2015 AFC wild-card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, ultimately contributing to an eventual loss. Last year, Hill was barely seen on the field with 116 rushing yards while Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard split time. He also caught 63 passes for 468 yards and a touchdown.
