Suspect killed after knife attack in Old City of Jerusalem

The tunnel was partially destroyed during Israel's war with Gaza in 2014 and Hamas had attempted to put it back into operation, according to an Israeli military spokesman.

Medics rushed into the stone alleyways of the Old City in order to reach the wounded Israeli, who was said to be approximately 30 years old.

"We did not use explosives".

In a series of posts to their official twitter account, military officials claim to have targeted Hamas outposts in the central Gaza Strip. Also citing security concerns, Egypt keeps its border with Gaza largely closed. The statement added that it did not expect a Hamas retaliation for the demolition of the tunnels. Since then, Israel has been working on advanced counter-measures including a sensor-equipped underground wall along the 60-km (36-mile) Gaza border, a US$1.1 billion project it aims to complete by mid-2019.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the destruction of the tunnels at the start of his weekly cabinet meeting.

'Hamas condemns the Israeli attacks on Gaza and blames the occupation government for any escalation resulted of its continuous violations, ' the statement reads.

The raids on Saturday night came after the regime's tanks targeted Hamas positions in the besieged enclave, according to media reports.

"The arrest was carried out by the Shin Bet, Israel Police Special Patrol Unit and Israel Defense Forces". He refused to give more details.

"We heard the sound of shelling, the whole of the house shaking and the windows too", she said.

The report also pointed out that the occupying state of Israel has committed grave human rights violations and called for the "establishment of a fact-finding committee by the Human Rights Council on Israeli violations of detainees, and for the activation of global accountability mechanisms towards perpetrators".
