Snapchat adds Group Video Chats and raids Instagram for @Mentions

Two notable features coming to Snapchat should help it feel more like a comprehensive social media platform: group video chat and support for mentions.

"Today, we're making Chat even more fun".

Once users are in a group (texting) chat, they can tap the camera icon in the corner of the chat screen to invite the rest of the group to a video conversation. Tap the phone icon in a Group Chat to kick off a group voice call. Tagged friends will receive a notification that they have been mentioned, prompting them to view a specific story. You start the voice call the same way you would a group video call by being within a group chat. Moreover, you can still use all the face Lenses and filters in the Group Video Chat.

The new group chat option is being heralded on the Snap Inc.

Since then, users have made millions of calls on Snapchat each day, according to the Verge.

Users who were experiencing issues with the app Tuesday, including trouble loading and sending Snaps were advised to try updating their app to the latest version of the software. You can tag people in your storey or in snaps.

Mentioning other users is a rather trivial feature for regular consumers but is extremely valuable to celebrities and high-profile users that have large audiences.

The company has had a rocky few months, having seen £1 billion wiped off its share price in February after reality TV star Kylie Jenner said she no longer used the service - she has since returned. This lets you know they're on the group call, too.

App redesign: Separates "Friends" and "Discover" pages to create a more personalised experience.

Regular Instagrammers should recognise the feature, as it's been available on the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app for yonks.
