Notre Dame stuns MI hockey with game-winner in final 6 seconds

MI took on No. 2 Notre Dame at the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minnesota on Thursday, April 5. This will be their fourth title-game appearance in six trips to the Frozen Four.

The goal was Evans' second in a game where MI jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Avery Peterson (11) and Jared Thomas (22) of Minnesota Duluth keep the puck out of reach of Alec Mahalak (6) of Miami at Amsoil Arena on February 16.

The Irish, who beat Michigan Tech in overtime in their tournament opener before scoring late to beat Providence 2-1 in a regional final, scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead at the 1:04 mark of the third period.

The Wolverines had a 2-0 lead early in the secon dperiod, but it was erased right away after two goals in 3:39 for the Irish (28-9-2).

Raabe, a Capistrano Beach native, scored four goals and added two assists in his first season at MI.

The Big Ten-champion Irish have five straight wins, but are 9-6-1 in their last 16 games since a 16-game win streak ended January 21. Lavigne made 25 saves.

Calderone scored midway through the first, coming out of the corner and putting a wrist shot past Morris from the left dot. Evans somehow came up with the puck sandwiched between Cooper Marody and Dexter Dancs, and put the puck under goalie Hayden Lavigne for a picture ideal goal. Notre Dame then stormed back with three consecutive goals, before MI tied it up with 5:22 remaining.
