Russian Federation join Monaco in grid girl crusade

Dmitry Kozak, the Russian deputy prime minister who is chairman of the organising committee for the race in Sochi in September, said: "Of course it's not right to bring out children, who are afraid of machines".

They were replaced with so-called "grid kids" for the 2018/19 season, where the youngsters would accompany drivers.

Another race that could ignore the grid girl ban is Russian Federation, with organiser Dmitry Kozak saying that women could be on the grid at Sochi in September.

In what could be interpreted as a challenge to Liberty Media's authority, Boeri added, "We have no problems with Liberty but there will be girls on the grid, maybe without signs, but at least as hostesses".

Yet Monaco Grand Prix boss Michel Boeri said that there will be grid girls at the street race next month. "Moreover, our girls are the most lovely".

Lewis Hamilton is clearly not a fan of Formula One's decision to axe "grid girls" - as confirmed by a now-deleted Instagram post.

When discussing using grid kids instead of trying to make a deal to bypass the F1 decision, he disagreed with the idea, saying "It's wrong at races to lead out children, who are frightened of mechanical things".

"Girls advertise automobiles in all motorsports - it looks attractive and fitting".

In Russia also the girls will be present. The Grid Girls are here to stay in Monaco.

"Our American friends assume it hurts female feelings, but our hostesses go to modelling and PR schools and they're paid well". Even with all of that, it's especially discouraging to see high level racing officials not only asking to ignore the decision but reducing women as something pretty to perform for them and the cameras.
