Hard nut Fiji crush Kenya's dream in Hong Kong Sevens final

Skipper Oscar Ouma who made it to the Hong Kong Sevens dream team then took matter into his own hands with powerful runs surging to the line for a converted try for 24-12 score line; to the delight of the supporting crowd but it was enough to snatch the title.

A fresh-faced New Zealand team bowed out of the Hong Kong Sevens as Kenya toppled them in the semifinals on Sunday.

Famed for a party atmosphere nearly unrivaled in the world of sport, Fiji enjoys the annual trip to Hong Kong more than most.

The callow Blitzbok side picked for Hong Kong leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series demonstrated impressive composure and skill to advance to the quarterfinals by winning their Pool.

"I would prefer to thank my boys for the group effort and thank the Kenyan group for an excellent sport", Tuwai informed the World Rugby web site.

After being hammered 50-7 by Fiji in their final pool game on Saturday, New Zealand looked a completely different outfit against the US.

The turning point came mid way through the first half of the game when Kenya were reduced to five men after Collins Injera and Willy Ambaka were sin-binned allowing Fiji to build a solid 17-0 lead at the break.

New Zealand's regular squad and coaching team are on the Gold Coast preparing for the Commonwealth Games tournament, testing the country's depth of sevens talent.

"Hong Kong is always special for us, we respect and honor the tradition that Fiji has with the Hong Kong Sevens".

South Africa claimed the bronze medal after beating New Zealand 29-7 while Argentina beat United States of America 14-12 to secure fifth.

The result lifts Fiji to within three points of South Africa at the top of the standings, with New Zealand firmly entrenched in third heading into the eighth of 10 rounds in Singapore later this month.
