Google breaks ground on $600M data center in Jackson County

This $600 million investment by Google will see as many as 100 high-skilled jobs to the community. Once finished, the center is expected to employ between 75 and 100 people in Jackson County.

David Hughes, the Mayor of Bridgeport, told us it will help grow the city that has about $2,300 people. Google has not directly offered a comment on its appeal.

"Naturally, it's going to help science, technology, math, things like that in our schools".

On Monday, you could find a lot of people celebrating the groundbreaking to construct a new data center for the company in Jackson County.

Today, it is purchasing a significant amount of solar power for its Georgia cloud facility, while also breaking ground on a new site in Alabama.

The former TVA plant shut down in 2015 after generating coal-fired electricity for TVA for 63 years.

"The construction jobs will be several hundred construction jobs, and it's a great company".

Google was attracted to the site on the Tennessee River because of the availability of land, water, labor and clean renewable energy.

Data process centers handle as many as 100 billion searches for Google every month and 500 hours of video uploads to YouTube every minute.

The overall environment and philosophy of Silicon Valley notwithstanding, it can be hard to find too many other companies that have employees who are as progressive as those in Google.

Today was the groundbreaking for the $600 million Google Data Center that's being built in Jackson county.

The report quotes sources claiming that Google filed the appeal with NCLAT on Monday. "Today's announcement, along with our previous big announcement that unemployment is at its lowest rate ever in our history (at 3.5 percent), shows that what we are doing and the way we are doing it is working in Alabama". It found Google favoring its own shopping service, and demoting rival services in search results.

"With this generous grant, Google has again proven itself a community partner and a supporter of the Jackson County School District", said Kevin Dukes, superintendent of the Jackson County School System.

Google's data center in Jackson County will become Alabama's first large-scale data center.
