Torres decides to leave Atletico Madrid

He said that despite playing less first team football, his relationship with coach Diego Simeone was "normal".

"It's not good information", the France global said.

"You can see that my role has been very limited. His kids speak English, so perhaps it is time to learn Chinese which he can offer to his siblings with a few years in the Far East".

The inability to sign players hindered the team as manager Diego Simeone was unable to get rid of players he might not have wanted while at the same time being unable to sign the ones he would have preferred. "I think this was key when I made the decision".

Torres would have preferred greater clarity from the club over their position on his future.

Calls for retirement have remained behind Torres' ambition to play on, and the striker has confirmed that he is ready for a new challenge. Simeone hinted that it might not be in the club's best interest to renew Torres' contract.

"There is no problem with the coach", continued Torres, adding that any conversation with Simeone had been "behind closed doors". "This decision is exclusively mine".

The club have announced they will pay a special tribute to Torres during their final game of the season.

He had fallen down the pecking order this season behind Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro, Luciano Vietto and Angel Correa.

Torres has seven goals in 34 appearances with Atletico this season.

The Spain worldwide scored an impressive 65 goals in 102 league appearances for the Merseysiders before trading the Reds for a stint at Chelsea. After spells at Chelsea and Milan, the frontman returned to Atletico in January 2015.

Torres signed an additional year contact with his boyhood club last year in order to help the club through their transfer ban, but he has now told reporters that he will not be remaining at the side he's played nearly 400 times for.

Torres said he sees himself back with the club at some point.

"It was because of what I said [about Manchester United]".

'Both the club and I knew that this moment was going to come.
