All-new Ford Focus revealed

All-new Ford Focus revealed

It's worth noting that to begin with that at launch the new 1.5-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines are not available. Sitting on a new platform, the Focus has a longer wheelbase that should open up more space for backseat passengers.

In the 2019 Focus Wagon, meanwhile, there's up to 58 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded flat.

Other features available on the new model include adaptive cruise control, an adaptive front lighting system with a new camera-based predictive light curve that adjusts the beam by monitoring bends and - for the first time in the industry - road signs, evasive steering assist to help steer around hazards and a head-up display - a first for Ford in Europe. "And it's got road-edge detection, which is great for the United Kingdom where not all the roads have a white line at the side". It will be slightly bigger and lighter than the outgoing Focus, and will be offered in several different variants - sporty-looking ST Line, posh Vignale, crossover-inspired Active, and, of course, ST and RS.

The sporty ST-Line grade stands out with an aggressive rear diffuser, large roof-mounted rear spoiler and front apertures, and unique lower wing elements created to direct air to the air-curtain inlets.

Things were a lot simpler when the last Ford Focus arrived. There is, however, no mention of an RS or ST so you will have to wait patiently if you want a more potent Focus experience.

THE new Ford Focus has been revealed - and it's cheaper than ever.

Technologically, the new Focus will be the most advanced iteration of the model, without question.

The new Ford Focus will go on sale in the United Kingdom later in 2018.

With the 2019 Ford Focus, the engineers at the automobile company have made some notable internal changes to previous models, although the exterior is still the same size as previous models.

There's also a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost (four output levels, from 85 PS to 125 PS) and two more turbo diesels - 1.5-litre EcoBlue (95 PS to 120 PS) and 2.0-litre EcoBlue (150 PS), but we don't expect these to be coming to Malaysia.

Depending on the market, Ford will offer the Focus as a 4-door auto, 5-door wagon and/or 5-door hatchback.

The Focus will also receive new EcoBoost engines, although those for the North-American market haven't yet been officialised. Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system is available with an 8.0-inch color touchscreen in the new Focus and FordPass Connect modem technology provides features such as Live Traffic updates. Ford has already committed to making 90-percent of its new global vehicles internet connected by 2020, and the Focus will be one of them.

Order books are open from today for the new Focus, with first deliveries expected from September. There'll be native music streaming, too, while the FordPass mobile app will allow remote access to locate the vehicle, check things like its fuel level and oil life, and unlock and start it from a smartphone.
