Seth Meyers' son born in apartment lobby

Seth Meyers' son born in apartment lobby

Seth Meyers unexpectedly hosted a different kind of event Sunday ― the birth of his second son, who was born in the lobby of his apartment building. "It was just this incredible outpouring of kindness from people we barely knew", Meyers said, he also said he "kept apologizing" to everyone trying to help.

Back inside his apartment building, Alexi committed to having the baby in the lobby. "We've had a baby.' My wife basically takes our baby and puts him on our chest and is incredibly calm for what she just went through".

The rest of the story involves a massive group of firefighters, compassionate neighbors, and a few photos from the scene.

Meyers said his son's middle name honours Ashe's grandparents who met in a hospital in Austria the day after they were liberated from a concentration camp.

Meyers and Ashe named their son Axel Strahl. They went to the hospital and Axel was found to be a healthy newborn.

Meyers cried on the show while telling the lovely story, and thanked the NYPD - who arrived to cut the umbilical chord - as well as his neighbors, who gave him dry, warm towels to keep his baby safe until medical help arrived.

Meyers shared that after waiting for an Uber to arrive to take he, his wife, his mother-in-law, and their doula to the hospital after labor began, Alexi said she could not get in the auto.

Ashe said: "I can't get in that auto".

He says that the doula tried to reassure the couple that all would be fine but it turns out the baby was very much on his way.

Meyers said their Uber was waiting outside the lobby when his wife announced the baby was coming.

As Myers acknowledged his wife, emotions flooded.

"She looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants", Meyers joked in his monologue.

'I'm getting choked up thinking about how fearless I was, ' he joked in an attempt to distract the crowd from his emotions.
