Elderly Athens woman dies after house fire

Two of the firefighters suffered what Muñoz said were "very minor burns to their ears".

"Our intial concern was the fire being exposed to the neighbor's house and requested assistance", Sell said.

Chittum said the residents went to see what was affecting the house's power and found the fire.

A single-story home in Margate was seriously damaged by a fire Thursday afternoon.

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical malfunction at the house's meter base.

"I was going to say these things happen, but they don't really", Peter added.

The home was unoccupied at the time, but firefighters conducted a search.

Officials are still working to determine what started the fire.

PREVIOUS STORY: At least three people were injured in a fire in Athens Wednesday night.

They fought the fire back to enable rescue crews to perform a primary search of the structure. Another was taken by ambulance.

A State Forestry Unit and Watertown volunteer firefighters, Wilson County sheriff's deputies and Rehab 23 also responded to the scene.
