Kathua: Crisis in BJP-PDP coalition averted after 2 ministers resign

BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav on Saturday said that there was no threat to the ruling PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir as both the parties were working in coordination. "Mehbooba Mufti should take action just like she took against Haseeb Drabu (ex J&K FM), who's crime wasn't this heinous", he said.

Nirupam said the candle-light protests will express solidarity with the victims and their families and highlight the government's failure to combat the growing cases of atrocities against women. "It is unlike other cases like Jessica Lal murder case where people had to come out on streets demanding arrest of the accused persons", he said. "I was very clear in my words while condemning the brutal killing of the girl and want the culprits be hanged", he said.

The party will now review their applications for resignation and decide whether to let the ministers resign or not.

He said a perception was created by the opposition, particularly Congress, that the two BJP leaders were "pro-rapists" and were trying to hamper the investigation.

Earlier in the morning, the Bench had sought "something on record" from a lawyer for it to act suo motu, but it chose to crack the whip on being told about the obstruction on the day the charge-sheet was to be filed in a Kathua court.

An eight-year-old girl in Kathua, belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe in the district, was sedated time and again before being raped and killed. We sat with over 5,000 people and made them understand. "That is also a confidence-building measure".

The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has submitted a chargesheet in the case against eight accused, including two special police officers and a sub-inspector and a head constable for destroying evidence.

CM Mufti wrote to the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, requesting setting up of a special fast track court to try the gang rape and murder of the Kathua victim.

Asifa Bano was kidnapped and allegedly taken to a temple in Kathua, drugged, gangraped over two days, strangled and her body was dumped in a forest.
