Next BioShock game now in development at "top-secret" 2K Games studio

Next BioShock game now in development at

The news comes as part of a new Kotaku report that details some of this issues that both plagued Mafia III during development and the studio post-launch. The original article is a research piece exploring how Mafia III developer Hangar 13 has been evolving for the past 18 months, with many major people in the company, including the art director and major game designers, being laid-off in February.

The most recent installment was 2013's BioShock Infinite; a year after its release, lead BioShock studio Irrational Games was more or less shut down.

A new BioShock game is reportedly in the works at an unnamed 2K studio, according to Kotaku's Jason Schreier. Maybe this new game is one that fans have been waiting for.

Whether this studio is the same one working on the next BioShock at the moment is not known.

The project is apparently still quite small. Presumably that means Ken Levine won't be involved in the project, as he's now working on an original project at his new 2K-backed studio Ghost Story Games.

2K Games confirmed Fergusson's announcement, but wouldn't comment on the studio nor what it would be working on. Since Infinite, there hasn't been talk of a new game, which makes this the first murmurs that 2K has got something up their sleeves. We have yet to see a new game in the franchise hit the newer PS4 and Xbox One consoles thus far.

It really shouldn't come as a much of a shock (heh) that 2K would want to bring back BioShock, seeing as the series has sold over 25 million copies. We've been to the depths of the oceans and up to the heavens, maybe space is the next frontier?
