Sridevi wins Best actress in the 65th National Film Awards

The winners' list has a good mix of Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese films. The Jury Chairpersons of the 65th National Film Awards had submitted its report to the Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Smt.

Late legendary actress Sridevi has been honoured with the National Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in her last release Mom.

In an earlier interview to IANS, Sridevi had said she was proud to be a part of a film like "Mom", and the reactions it elicited.

Shocking much? Shekhar Kapur announced the winners of the National Awards 2018 today, Press Information Bureau in New Delhi on Friday.

Guess what, the Isaipuyal had taken time off his busy schedule to share a heart-felt message for fans following the achievement.


Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Take off, Bhayanakam, S Durga, Alorukkam, Ottamuri Velicham, Angamaly Diaries, Painting Life are in the run for the best film.

'She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. Sinjar, made in Jasari language, won the Indira Gandhi award for the best debut film of a director.

Sridevi, who made her comeback on the silver screen after 15 years with Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish (2012), was last seen in Ravi's revenge drama, Mom. Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema.

Earlier, Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi had also issued a joint statement thanking the Indian government and the jury members for the honour. Riddhi Sen won best actor for "Nagarkirtan".

The 10-member jury panel, which was headed by Shekhar Kapur, had Kannada director P Sheshadri, screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, actor Gautami Tadimalla and lyricist Mehboob, among others.
