76ers Joel Embiid Clears Concussion Protocol, Remains out for Game 2

Has cleared NBA's concussion protocol.

Embiid suffered a fractured orbital bone after taking a shot from teammate, Markelle Fultz on March 28.

After missing each of his first two National Basketball Association seasons due to injury and being limited to 31 games in 2016-17, Embiid played a career-high 63 games this season.

The 7-footer wore the mask during pregame shooting drills and would need one in the postseason.

The All-Star big man warmed up before Game 1 on Saturday (Sunday, PHL time), but had already been ruled out for that night's contest.

Game 3 of the series isn't until Thursday, which gives Embiid five full days after clearing the protocol to get ready to play again.

John Wall led eighth-seeded Washington with 23 points and 15 assists, and Markieff Morris scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. "But everything has been going well". He was superb as the Sixers' leader on the floor, commanding a second half surge that put Philadelphia in the driver's seat for good. I've been able to do everything.

And if they take a commanding 2-0 series lead while potentially getting him back for Game 3?

Embiid's presence made the Sixers a better defensive team.

Philadelphia has handled Embiid's absence well.

Overall, Philadelphia is riding a 16-game winning streak into the playoffs.

Toronto entered having lost an NBA-worst 10 consecutive Game 1s since, including six at home.
