EPL: Mourinho reacts to Man City winning title, blasts Man United players

Having avoided the embarrassment of watching City celebrate the title in front of them last week, many couldn't stomach witnessing their own heroes hand the trophy over in such meek fashion.

City's supporters are now discovering that winning the title without even playing, courtesy of West Bromwich Albion's unexpected 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday, does nothing to diminish the joy of planting your flag at the summit while the rest look on enviously below you.

"I won eight titles and I am not on the moon because I won against Manchester City", the Portuguese told Sky Sports News.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on Twitter: Unbelievable season for us.

While they missed out narrowly on that particular record, here are some of the best Opta numbers from City's special Premier League season. They lost 0-1 to the bottom-placed side in the league.

For too long United were sterile.

"Last not 20 years ago, it was three".

Inevitably, it will be the failures of this City team that will irritate Guardiola and his players, at the same time offering the critics the opportunity to find fault. "If I was in their position I would be very upset if someone said they won because United lost against West Brom". Whereas last week they spent the second 45 minutes pulling Manchester City this way and that, seven days on they appeared clueless as to how to breach a far weaker defence.

But the manner of their title confirmation is perhaps the best evidence of City's quality and the shortcomings of their rivals.

'We were a complicated team and let them feel comfortable.

Their dominance of the league, with 28 wins and just two defeats bear that out, but the circumstances in which they have been handed the title were surprising.

Few United players could hold their head high after the West Brom defeat. That's Liverpooling more than Liverpool have ever Liverpooled this season.

"Manchester City, we've won you the league", chanted the travelling Albion fans as time ran out but, in truth, United, ridiculously, had done the damage themselves.
