Jose Mourinho to drop players for FA Cup semi-final against Spurs

"It was not done even if we (had) won". There is no question Pogba has style. He saw that result way before we saw it. This season, however, Mourinho's frustration with Pogba has become more apparent since the two were involved in a heated touchline exchange in the defeat by Tottenham at Wembley in January. Mourinho pulled no punches about his squad's lack of consistency, but the former Chelsea boss made it clear he believes he can return United to the summit of English football. This has brought the mentality of United's players under the spotlight.

"So, the word is not rotation, it is an opportunity for people, for some people to play and to try to get a place in the team for Spurs - and some of the guys that played (against West Brom), they don't have a place in that team".

In public, Mourinho responded to talk in France that Pogba was unhappy and assessing his future as 'lies and bull****'. "He had a yellow card so he was in a more hard position than others", explained the boss.

The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled to fit into Mourinho's system and follow his manager's instructions.

Mourinho's disappointment will have no doubt been compounded by the fact some of those under-performing have been key players for him. "For us, we hit a high level, but the most satisfying thing is that we kept that high level over a period of two, three four years", he added. Everything was complicated, so we were losing lots of balls.

The first half was a bad advert for the English top-flight.

Jose Mourinho has told his Manchester United players that Wembley places are up for grabs in Wednesday's match at Bournemouth. The competition represents their only chance of winning silverware this season, after making a surprise exit in the last 16 of the Champions League to La Liga side Sevilla, while Manchester City have cruised to the Premier League title and won the League Cup, their first trophies under Pep Guardiola.

United's high-profile transfers have not worked out under Woodward's rule. Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are also set to be offloaded.

It is not a scenario anyone envisaged when he walked back through the door to such a great fanfare.
