"Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls" Game Revealed for iOS

Today the Japanese publisher revealed Akumajo Dracula: Grimoire of Souls, or Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls if you prefer the western title of the series.

The announcement comes from Konami's official website (translated by the fine folks over at Gematsu).

"The grimoire went out of control, and Count Dracula has been revived", it said. It seemed like eternal peace had come to the world.

"In order to verify the meaning of the words written in the letter-'The Grimoire has Run Wild and Count Dracula will be resurrected'-Genya Arikado heads off towards the letter's sender..."

Exhilarating battles where up to four players can cooperate.

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls for iOS Announced

Genya ArikadoA mysterious person belonging to the confidential organization of the Japanese government. Along with his assistant Lucy, a female researcher and magician, Arikado is gunning to make sure Dracula doesn't make his big return. There's also a 4v4 competitive mode to look forward to as the curtain raises on this new entry in the long-running Castlevania series. Other characters from Castlevania canon, such as Alucard, Simon Belmont, Charlotte, Maria, and Shanoa will be available as well.

Grimoire of Souls will feature four-player cooperative action.

The title looks great graphically.

Titled Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, the latest entry to the franchise will feature the Castlevania gameplay and story you're used to, only shrunk down to the size of your iOS device rather than on your television or monitor. Since 1997's Symphony of the Night, which rightfully sits on many "Greatest of All Time" lists, the series has had several questionable forays into things like 3D (Castlevania 64), multiplayer (Harmony of Despair), fighting games (Judgement), and God of War impersonation (Lords of Shadow).
