Pressure to Release Comey Memos May Have Backfired on GOP

Mitt Romney on Saturday called some of the disclosures made by former FBI Director James Comey in his explosive new book "unusual" and "disappointing" and said the excerpts he'd seen were not what he'd expect from a former FBI director. Therefore, the Special Council was established based on an illegal act?

They give details of the telephonic conversations and meetings that Comey has had with Trump before he was sacked by the president last May. Comey asked a friend to release them to the press.

A year ago, he was sacked, for what Trump at first claimed were reasons dating back to the FBI director's handling of an investigation into Hillary Clinton's email in 2016. "And the information in them, if it was classified, was classified as soon as he put it down on paper". These are memos Comey wrote about his chats with Trump past year.

In May 2017, Trump fired Comey, publicly stating that it was due to dissatisfaction with Comey's performance.

Comey, told Trump that he was "eager to find leakers and would like to nail one to the door as a message", but explained that prosecuting reporters was "tricky".

"He asked me to follow up and make sure that we were working well with the Jordanians and helping them quickly bring the killer to justice", he writes. Comey laughed as he walked out of the room, according to the memo.

"Will the Witch Hunt continue?"

The IG sent the referral Thursday after he found that McCabe leaked a self-serving story to the press and later lied about it to then-FBI Director Comey and federal investigators, prompting Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire him just days before his pension was set to become effective.

DiGenova said the memos show that he knew President Donald Trump was innocent of collusion during the 2016 election "from the very beginning".

From attempted cover-ups to intentionally misleading investigations, many Clinton sympathizers and alleged anti-Trump conspirators could be facing serious consequences in the upcoming months.

In a February 2017 conversation, for instance, Trump told Comey how Putin told him, "we have some of the most attractive hookers in the world" even as the president adamantly distanced himself from a salacious allegation concerning himself and prostitutes in Moscow, according to one memo. Trump did rail against Flynn for failing to tell him that Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first leader to call him after he won the election, which resulted in Trump toasting British Prime Minister Theresa May to being the first foreign leader to call and Flynn had to correct him.

"I wake up some mornings and read the president is demanding the jailing of private citizens - occasionally me", Comey told host Emily Maitlis. He then blamed Mr Flynn for a delay in returning the congratulatory call of an worldwide leader.

Mr Flynn was sacked a few weeks later after misleading Mike Pence, the vice-president, about his own contacts with Russian Federation.
