UPSC Civil Services Exam 2017 result declared, Anudeep Durishetty gets first rank

Hailing from Haryana's Sonepat district, Anu Kumari, bagged the second rank. The exam was held to recruit candidates for IAS, IFS, IPS, Central Services (Group A and Group B) and other departments. Although he is an engineer, Anudeep took Anthropology as his optional subject in Mains.

Out of the 990 candidates recommended, 476 are from the general category and 275 from other backward classes.

The topper holds a degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics and Instumentation) from BITS Pilani college. He is now Assistant Commissioner in the Indian Revenue Service. An ardent Arsenal football club fan, Anudeep also draws inspiration from tennis superstar Roger Fede-rer, and captained the football team at the National Academy of Customs Excise & Narcotics. He is also "a lover of art, skies, sunsets and yellow light", as per his introduction on the social network. While Subhankar topped the list among Odisha candidates, Amiya Prasanna Nanda (Rank 243) and Sumit Panda (Rank 251) followed him. While second overall and women's topper is Anu Kumar for Civil Services 2017. Among the differently abled candidates, Saumya Sharma, who has a hearing impairment, was the highest ranked, bagging the ninth rank overall.

- UPSC 2017 details: 9, 57,590 candidates applied for the preliminary examination, out of which 4,56, 625 candidates appeared. The UPSC main exam was held on October 28, 2017.

A total of 990 candidates (750 men and 240 women) have been recommended by the UPSC for appointment to various services, according to a press release issued by the Commission. "Of them, 2,568 candidates qualified for the Personality Test conducted in February-April, 2018", it said.
