A Couple of Texts Can Crash the WhatsApp & Android Device

Moreover, there are many buggy messages that can easily crash WhatsApp messaging app on the Android.

WhatsApp also recently rolled out a new sticker album feature for its beta users. According to a report, a new bug is being distributed on the instant messaging platform, which when opened, could send WhatsApp Android app crashing and even the entire Android ecosystem on the smartphone.

The message, which causes the app to hang after a user taps on a black dot, only appears to have affected Android device owners so far. At present, WhatsApp has yet to acknowledge the bug but it goes without saying that an update should be forthcoming to address the issue, if not already released.

Android users have been receiving a WhatsApp message that contains the line "If you touch the black point your WhatsApp will hang", followed by a black dot and several emojis.

This isn't the first time this kind of message bugs have emerged. It is only after you tap on the message that your WhatsApp app may crash or freeze.

But fortunately, it doesn't seem as though the WhatsApp bug will wipe your handset or require you to completely reboot the device. One message is a simple text in quotations that reads "This is very interesting", with the "laughing so much I'm crying" emoji.

A seemingly innocuous string of characters with an emoji at the end which is a forwarded message through WhatsApp is the major culprit here.

The good news is you don't have a lot to worry about - even if a prank-loving friend catches you out with one of these messages, you just need to reset your phone to bring it back. The bad thing about message bombs is that they crash the user's smartphone after the user clicked on the message.

But the person who sent you a message could be a horrid hacker hellbent on ruining your day. "Create a report of your WhatsApp account information and settings, which you can access or port to another app".
