Disney parade float bursts into flames

Disney parade float bursts into flames

Cast members shooed parade attendees away from the malfunctioning float, and a Disney employee extinguished the flames.

The Maleficent dragon, which had a functioning fire feature, went up in flames during Friday afternoon's (local time) Festival of Fantasy parade at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida. Photos and videos taken by park visitors show the contraption's upper portion bobbing up and down, engulfed in flames. Later, parts of its head piece appear to flake off and fall to the street.

Videos of the incident show that the float was still operational even as it was on fire, with its mechanical head rising and falling as workers tried to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers. No word on what will happen to the dragon float, but I hope they fix it and continue with this parade. The publication added that a live employee is typically stationed inside the machine as it blows smoke and fire into the air, though there were no reports of injuries as the area was quickly closed and cleared. "The dragon was not looking the best after as you can see".

Disney officials say they are still trying to figure out what went wrong.
