Avengers: Infinity War Just Opened To Huge Numbers In China

Avengers: Infinity War dominated the global box office this weekend, earning another $349 million worldwide and bringing its global total to $1.607 billion. With the humungous business of $ 1.60 billion, it has become the fifth highest worldwide grosser of all time surpassing the collections of The Avengers ($ 1.518 billion) and Furious 7 ($ 1.516 billion). On Saturday, it became the second-fastest film to cross the $500 million mark at the domestic box office.

Infinity War opened Friday in China, its final foreign market. "Age of Ultron" earned $240 million in its entire run in China.

For the uninitiated, Avengers: Infinity War is the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that started nearly 10 years ago with Robert Downey Jr-starrer Iron Man. In this case, rival studios avoided Avengers as much as possible. And that has led to a multi-record-breaking box office performance.

Rounding out the top five this weekend are Lionsgate and MGM's rom-com remake Overboard, with about $10.1 million, and Paramount's silently spooky horror hit A Quiet Place, with about $6.4 million. This easily topped the weekend's new releases, the Melissa McCarthy-starring comedy Life of the Party and the Gabrielle Union-starring thriller Breaking In.

Life of the Party is the third collaboration between McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone. That's well behind the $24.3 million launch of Packer's thriller No Good Deed in 2014.

Billy Burke, Christa Miller, Jason George, Richard Cabral, Levi Meaden, and Damien Leake also star in the film, which was directed by V for Vendetta's James McTeigue based on a script from Rampage's Ryan Engle. Breaking In and Life of the Party both received a B CinemaScore. Its domestic tally now sits at $29.6 million. The film, which has had audiences rushing to cinemas globally to see the biggest ensemble of characters put together on screen, overtakes previous number one The Dark Knight Rises which made a total of £56.3M at the United Kingdom box office. The pic is likewise impressing overseas, where it jumped the $100 mililon mark over the weekend.
