Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea dedicates Golden Glove award to teammates

David de Gea was understandably chuffed after securing his first Golden Glove but the Manchester United custodian insisted the accolade wasn't just for him, but the entire team instead.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea wins his first Golden Glove award clean another sheet at the London Stadium against West Ham on Thursday. He's saved them metaphorically, consistently, over the course of these past few years.

In United's first game since former manager Alex Ferguson had to have emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage, the visiting fans showed their support to the 76-year-old Scot with persistent chants of "We all love Alex Ferguson".

De Gea's shut-out performance against West Ham ensured he can not be caught by Manchester City rival Ederson in the race for the Golden Glove.

De Gea is happy with how things have gone on an individual level, though, telling United Review: "I think it's been a very complete season for me, my best since I've been at the club, I reckon".

On top of that, the Spanish stopper was nominated for PFA Player of the Year, won by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, and once again took his place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. "Obviously, we are all very happy for David and it is a great team achievement". The Spaniard's skill set certainly complements a defensive-minded boss like Mourinho quite well.

But they've finished second to, statistically, the best Premier League side ever and - aside from a poor Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla and a shock League Cup defeat to Bristol City - they couldn't have expected any more from this season. Eighteen is the highest clean sheet tally recorded in the Premier League since 2012/13, when Manchester City's Joe Hart also kept that amount.

Heading into championship Sunday, i.e. the final game of the season, De Gea has 18 clean sheets, which is two more than his next closest competitor.
