Price solid in return as Red Sox beat Blue Jays, 5-2

Aaron Sanchez had the first crack Friday and while his five-inning performance wasn't a showstopper - he allowed three runs, two earned, and five hits - the right-hander kept his team in the game, and the Jays rallied to win 5-3 on Luke Maile's two-run homer in the 12 inning.

The teams have split the first two games of the series with the Blue Jays winning 5-3 in 12 innings Friday and the Red Sox winning 5-2 on Saturday.

"Pretty solid", Cora said. "Luckily it worked out, I was hoping it would. I'm sure I'll start figuring things out and pitch like I know I can".

Ramirez has three home runs in his past four games and nine RBIs in his past seven games.

"It's probably No. 1", Maile said with a smile.

The weird sensations in his wrist and hands have made it hard for him to spin a breaking ball at times, but he looked confident in the pitch against the Jays.

The weird and rather dramatic demise of the Blue Jays best pitcher from 2017 took another notable downturn on Friday when right hander Marcus Stroman was placed on the 10-day disabled list. Maile followed by launching the first pitch he saw over the centre-field fence.

Saturday's ballgame was boring for Blue Jays fans.

- Joe Kelly pitched a ideal ninth to pick up his second save of the season and lock down the win for Boston.

"Overall, I think we had a really good road trip", Martinez said.

Drew Pomeranz wasn't sharp in this one, giving up three runs on five hits and five walks over just four-plus innings of work. Biagini's last start for the Bisons came Tuesday when he allowed a pair of runs over six innings against the Rochester Red Wings, the Minnesota Twins' top affiliate.

Sale was his usual dominant self, pitching nine innings and allowing three Toronto runs off six hits while striking out 15.

"It was good to get back out there", Price said. "You've got to have a plan and try to execute".

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks now list the Red Sox as a -130 favorite. Sale had retired 15 straight men until Maile ran into a belt-high fastball on the plate's inner third, pulling it to the home bullpen in left to make it 3-3.

Toronto tied it when Teoscar Hernandez doubled and scored on a single by Josh Donaldson.

Mired in an 0-for-28 slump coming into the game, one that came on the heels of an 0-for-21, Kendrys Morales sliced a ground-rule double off Sale into the right-field corner in the second inning, setting up Maile's RBI single. Xander Bogaerts led off by splitting the television cameras in center field with a rocket, his solo home run representing his first of the month. The Toronto catcher dropped a third strike, then threw the ball way above first baseman Justin Smoak's head, allowing the Red Sox to take a 3-2 lead.

Talk is starting to surface that the Jays may have mishandled Biagini's career, though the organization, including manager John Gibbons, seem to be resisting the idea of putting him back into the bullpen.

"Don't worry about that now, will ya?", said Gibbons when asked if he was committed to another start for Biagini. "He's doing a hell of a job. And pitchers love throwing to him, so tip your hat". He doesn't have another schedule start, but he could be back on the mound against the Athletics on Saturday if the Blue Jays feel he's earned another turn in the rotation. May. Toronto is 11-11 at Rogers Centre.

Fresh off a grueling three-game series with the Yankees, the Red Sox certainly didn't need this.

"To be able throw it 0-0 and get that strike, not a lot of guys want to swing at that 0-0 curveball", Price said.
