APC describes parallel congress as exercise in futility

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being violence prone and of dragging the nation towards a state of anarchy.

The All Progressives Congress has said only the congresses authorised by the party and conducted in accordance with provisions of the APC constitution will be recognised.

"We, therefore, regard any so-called parallel congresses as an exercise in futility and attempt to cause confusion in the party".

Abdullahi said this in response to media requests on "parallel congresses" in some states.

He added that other members of his team monitored the exercise in the remaining eight local government areas., insisting that the reports submitted by the teams showed that the congresses were peaceful, credible and transparent.However, Nwachukwu described the reports of alleged parallel congresses by two factions of APC in Ebonyi as having originated from the figment of imagination of rumour mongers.

For the avoidance of doubt, the ward congress held last Sunday and today's (Sunday) LG congress conducted by the Oyo State APC under the leadership of Chief Akin Oke met all these criteria.

During the ward congress, parallel congress were reported to have been conducted in Borno, Ondo, Kogi, and Kano.

But the Former Bayelsa Governor and Leader of the Party, ChiefTimipre Sylva, who arrived the party secretariat in company of the Five man panel Congress committee led by the with the five man panel led by the Chairman, Dr. Ebikeme Dawodu, commended party members for the peaceful conduct during the Congress across the State.


The APC also reiterated that any party member who has any genuine grievances regarding the congresses should channel such through the appeals committee in their respective states.

Hilary Eke, the APC Imo Chairman, announced the postponement of the congress to Monday, May 14, following advice by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. After all the noise, we shall place them where they should be.

According to the Force Headquarters image maker, "They were arrested for being in possession of ward congress materials that belong to Imo State".

I have chose to address you this afternoon because it has become clear that my party, the All Progressives Congress, has reached a point where it must take a decision either to live up to the values of our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, and do the right thing or abandon our values and destroy our soul in order to please man. He said the party appeared to have abandoned the decision to extend the officials' tenure.
